Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.

Fans can expect finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
